Gatsby role is to portray the epitome of the America during the 1920‘s. The American dream is viewed as a pursuit of happiness. Gatsby’s love for Daisy has resulted in the motivation for extravagant living, criminal activities and corruption. In the same manner the American dream can be viewed as a simple dream on the outside but when all appearances are put aside these simple dreams consist of false promise exemplified by Gatsby inability to re create the pass with Daisy. Once this happens Gatsby's role is put to an end when due to the fact that there is nothing to live for and once again the American Dream proves it’s reality. The need for Daisy’s love was to significant for Gatsby to ignore, this pursuit of her love allows the book to flow but when Daisy choses Tom Buchanan over him all his optimism collapses within him. In this chapter it is realized even though Gatsby was able to change his social class he can’t interfere with free will which in this case is love.
